Welcome to the Energy Action Team: Policy Directions and Direct Action in the Communities

Primary tabs

Dear colleagues,

To what degree does the Energy Action Team want to be involved in reshaping the policy environment in South Florida and Central Florida, as well as preparing, responding to, and recovering energy systems from disasters?

Perhaps, on the policy side one thing we can do is to take a Florida-based clean energy plan, equivalent to Mayor Bowser’s Clean Energy DC plan, to the county and municipal mayors in South, Central, West, and North Florida, along with the gobernatorial and US Congress candidates from Florida to test their credentials in clean, distributed energy systems that will be resilient in the face of Cat 4, 5, an 6 hurricanes hitting Florida.  What other organizations and collective bodies are working on energy policy, which will work with us to enable clean, distributed, renewable energy systems in Florida that will be resilient under conditions of climate change in the transition to the Florida archipeligo of the mid-21st century?

It is clear that the collective actions of the Florida-based utilities and the candidates they are funding, like Rick Scott, are abusing their monopsony powers to act against the public’s interests in blocking the emergence of resilient and sustainable energy systems that will survive the tests of climate change and broader global changes.  What will this Energy Action Committee want to do to align with progressive resilient clean energy policies that will be compatible with the energy, and in particular the distributed, renewable electrical system, needs of the most vulnerable populations in Florida that the Florida Disaster Resilience Initiative is focusing on in its Phase I through Phase V efforts?
