Description
Miami Dade Emergency Management (MDEM) evolved from the Civil Defense era into a Department that uses an all-hazards approach to disaster management. The County’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP) is maintained by this Department as are many programs designed to assist our communities prepare for and recover from disasters.
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated for imminent and no-notice disasters; such as hurricanes and the 2008 power outage, respectively. It may also be activated for major events like the Super Bowl. Depending on the size and complexity of the event the activation levels range from 1 to 3. We are always at a level 3 (monitoring). When activated, the EOC serves as a communal hub where representations from local public safety, human services, infrastructure agencies and State and Federals Liaisons stage to plan and facilitate response and recovery efforts.
