Florida governor, while touring flooded areas, defends his scrapping state's climate change goals.

Tue, 2024-06-18 12:10 — mike kraft

Florida has unraveled climate goals for years. DeSantis struck the latest blow. - POLITICO

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday toured flood-ravaged areas of South Florida — and defended his recent move to scrap the state’s climate change goals.

DeSantis toured flooded areas of Hollywood, where he declared a state of emergency Wednesday after parts of the region received more than 20 inches of rain this week. There, he brushed off recent criticism from Democrats for signing a bill last month that struck language directing the state to promote renewable energy and curb greenhouse gas emissions.

Global warming may push more hurricanes toward the U.S. east and Gulf coasts--study

Mon, 2023-04-10 17:25 — mike kraft
Study says warming may push more hurricanes toward US coasts A new study says changes in air patterns as the world warms will likely push more and nastier hurricanes up against the United States’ east and Gulf coasts. Friday's study looks more at steering currents of future storms than past research, focusing on where storms will go instead of how big or frequent they will be. The study projects that in the future extra warming in the eastern equatorial Pacific will ripple through the atmosphere to push storms in the Atlantic more eastward toward the Southeast Coast and north in the Gulf of Mexico.
