National event invites students to Know Tomorrow

FIU students will add their voices to KNOW TOMORROW, a nationwide effort of more than 50 university campuses that unites students, activists, politicians, and celebrities across the country demanding climate action.

Students will host a morning service activity, club fair including an art installation, and speaker series as part of a National Campus Day of Action on Oct. 2.

“Student apathy on the subject of climate change cannot and will not be a reality we are willing to accept,” said FIU International Relations student Abigail Olson, who is helping to organize the event. “Our goal is simple: change the world through engagement of the people who can truly make a difference: the young who still have energy and hope for a better world.”

FIU's mangrove planting program will be part of the day-long Know Tomorrow event at FIU's two campuses.

FIU’s mangrove planting program will be part of the day-long Know Tomorrow event at FIU’s two campuses.

The day-long event will be hosted on both FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique and Biscayne Bay campuses. Volunteer projects include mangrove restoration at BBC and invasive species removal at MMC’s nature preserve. On MMC, the day will continue with a club fair in Green Library breezeway beginning at noon. The day will conclude with a speaker series, beginning at 3 p.m. in SIPA 125.

Climate Reality Project CEO Ken Berlin will be in attendance.

“Support for climate action is building around the world – but we can do very little without the millennial generation,” Berlin said. “Young people, and especially students, bring an unmatched enthusiasm to their activism – they want a say in the future of the world they will inherit. Through this new effort, we hope to empower passionate millennials with the tools they need to help solve the climate crisis.”
