This working group has been created to advance the discussion of all issues related to the current status of education in South Florida.  The SFLRS hopes to address current education gaps, solutions and innovative approaches that strengthen education in South Florida.  This working group will also review the current policies and operating realities within the our community that effect the efficacy of our education system.

Caregivers who had less than a high school education (compared to a master’s degree or higher) had more challenges accessing COVID-19 tests, lower odds of working remotely (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.04; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.03 to 0.07), and more food-access concerns (aOR, 4.14; 95% CI, 3.20 to 5.36).

Covid pandemic's lasting influence on children described in new studies.

From school closures to delays in routine immunizations, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on children are far-reaching.

Two new studies describe how Japanese children exposed to the first 2 years of the pandemic show developmental delays and note that 28% of US kids had delayed or missed preventive care visits due to COVID-19, with variations by race and ethnicity.

A new analysis of 21 polls conducted before and after the COVID-19 pandemic shows parents are changing how they think about school vaccination mandates, but not about vaccine safety.

Masks Cut Covid Spread in Schools, New Study details

Masks have been a cultural flash point since the start of the pandemic, and mask mandates in schools have been especially incendiary. Critics have argued that there is no strong evidence to prove that masks slow the spread of Covid, and that in any case children weren’t wearing the right kinds of masks or weren’t wearing them properly.

Now a research paper details a so-called natural experiment that occurred when all but two school districts in the greater Boston area lifted mask requirements in the spring. Researchers took that opportunity to make a direct comparison of the spread of Covid in masking and non-masking schools.
